Our responsibility to people & planet
Sustainability at Moyses Stevens.
For us, sustainability isn’t a recent initiative — it’s simply how a good florist has always worked. In nearly 150 years we’ve learned that beautiful flowers and responsible practice go hand in hand: shorter supply chains, less waste, and real care for the people and growers behind every stem. Here’s where we are, and where we’re headed.
In practice
Where we are today.
1876
the year we were founded
Nearly 150 years of doing flowers properly.
Our own
roses, grown not bought
Many of our roses come from our own farm.
Farm-direct
sourcing
Straight from growers, not the global auction house.
Recyclable
packaging by default
Paper and card first, with minimal single-use plastic.
Composted
stems & trimmings
Natural waste returned to the soil wherever we can.
Short
journeys, farm to vase
Fewer miles means fresher flowers and a lighter footprint.

In focus
We grow our own roses.
Most florists buy their roses through the global auction system, where each stem passes through many hands before it ever reaches the vase. We do it differently: we grow many of our own roses on our own farm.
That means we control how they’re grown, cut them fresher, and keep the journey — and the footprint — short. It’s better for the flowers, and better for the planet.
01
Sourcing
Where we don’t grow our own, we source directly from growers we know and trust — farms chosen for how they treat their land, their water and the people who work them. Buying farm-direct rather than through the global auction houses means fewer miles, fresher flowers and a clearer conscience.
02
Packaging
Our packaging is recyclable by default, and we keep single-use plastic to a minimum, favouring paper, card and reusable materials. Where we use vessels and containers, we choose ones that can be reused or recycled rather than thrown away.
03
Waste
Flowers are a natural product, and we treat their by-products accordingly: stems, foliage and trimmings are composted wherever possible rather than sent to landfill, and we recycle across the studio and back-of-house.
04
Our people
Sustainability is about people as much as planet. We’re committed to a fair, inclusive and supportive workplace, and to treating the growers and partners we work with as exactly that — long-term partners, not just suppliers.
Looking forward
Always more to do.
We don’t claim to have it all solved — no one honestly can. But we’re committed to steady, genuine progress: growing more of our own flowers, deepening our relationships with responsible growers, cutting waste further, and being honest about where we stand along the way.
