Direct European Sourcing Protocols:
The lifetime of a premium peony is largely determined before it ever boards an aircraft. Moyses Stevens has direct sources from top tier growers with multiple generations of experience internationally. Stems are picked at the perfect “marshmallow stage”, the optimal time when the green calyx opens up a little to show the colour of the petals that are wound below the surface. Picking at this ideal time keeps the stem's vascular system dormant, and protects the internal sugars from being activated during the transit.
The 8°C to 22°C Absolute Temperature Matrix:
The luxury flowers are put in a continuous transit cycle with temperature control due to the vast difference in climate between Europe and the UAE.
Once the cargo arrives at the UAE customs, it is transferred to specialised processing centres. The temperature is closely controlled within the range 8 to 12 °C to avoid loss of moisture and thermal shock. In a luxury setting the flowers are only delivered by custom, climate-controlled delivery fleets set to a uniform temperature.
Advanced Botanical Conditioning:
When the stems reach our design studio, our florists use meticulous conditioning techniques to ensure the longest possible vase life:
Vascular Incision: Each stem is cleanly cut underwater at a 45-degree angle with surgical-grade shears. This arrangement gives the water columns the greatest possible surface area and avoids embolisms.
Foliage Sanitation: All low-lying foliage is stripped carefully. Leaves that are submerged rot quickly, creating ethylene gas and dangerous bacteria that block the natural channels of absorption of the flower.
Architectural Placement & Home Preservation:
To extend the lifespan of your curated arrangement within private residences or corporate offices, placement must be carefully calculated. Avoid positioning your peonies in the path of direct architectural draft lanes, such as central air conditioning vents or high-velocity ceiling fans. These air currents accelerate moisture evaporation from the petals faster than the stem can pull water from the vase, leading to premature dehydration. Replenish the basin daily with filtered water to preserve the exquisite, ruffled layers.
